“Google.com is the GOD of Internet”. We all know that. God loves all its children and so does Google. But Google has so many children that it keeps forgetting their names. Some children are active, some are lazy, and some are even naughty. It must be reminded about the children each and every day. If a new child is born, there are quick ways to remind the God about its presence. In the context of that, let me ask you a few questions –
- Is your new WordPress website/blog getting any love from Google?
- Do you know how Google indexes WordPress websites and pages to its search engine?
- Have you been struggling to get indexed on Google?
- Do you know the best ways to instantly get indexed on Google?
- Are you paying someone to get your WordPress site listed on Google?
You need to follow through this article to get the answers to the above questions. And even if you do know all the answers, you might just pick up something good from the article. Here goes –
When you build a new WordPress website/blog, all you can do is choose a WordPress theme, write lots of quality content, and optimize your pages for keywords. Google uses Googlebot to crawl your website pages/content and pick up relevant information through your keywords, sitemap and links. There are certain steps that you need to take in order to remind Googlebot that you have a new WordPress website and it’s ready to be indexed on Google.
Step 1 : Submit your Sitemap and URL to Google Webmaster Tools
The first step is to login to Google Webmaster tools using your Google account. Once you are logged in, go to Submit URL and submit your website’s URL to Google. Now you must also have a sitemap for your website that you should submit to Google. A sitemap can be made manually or generated by using a WordPress plugin called Google XML Sitemaps plugin. Once you have the sitemap URL, just go to your Google Webmaster account and submit the sitemap URL.
Step 2 : Add a Ping List to your WordPress Website
A lot of people skip this part or forget to add it but I consider this as a very important step to notify search engines including Google that your website is updated with content. Just navigate to your WordPress Admin Panel and go to Settings > Writing. Down that page, you will find a section called “Update Services” where you paste in a list of websites that you can ping to notify. Here is the list that I use on blogohblog :-
Download WordPress Ping List
Just copy all the entries from the list and paste it in the Update Services section. Now when you update your website with a new post/article, all these ping locations will be broadcasted of the change and they will index your content.
Step 3 : Submit your URL to Social Bookmarking Websites
Once your website/content is ready to be shown to the world, you can make accounts on social bookmarking websites like Reddit, StumbleUpon, Pinterest, Delicious, Digg, Tumblr etc. and manually submit your website’s URL or any article URL that you want indexed. There are a lot of people active on these websites and you can get a lot of traffic if your content is good enough and people like it. Being on these social bookmarking sites also helps search engine bots to quickly index your pages.
Step 4 : Submit your URL to Blog Directories
There are also blog/website directories that accept URLs in different categories. Some of the popular ones are Technorati, Alltop, Blogdir, Dmoz etc. You can find a complete list of blog directories here.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a paid service to index your URL/content on Google, you can first try these steps yourself and save yourselves some money. After you perform the above steps, you can be sure that your website/blog will get indexed by Google in no time and the Google GOD will be notified of the newborn baby
